[Trans] The Kim Junsu Effect? Late-Night Documentary ‘The Zoo Is Alive’ Records Ratings Of 4.7%
The documentary, which became a hot topic even before its airing because it chose JYJ’s Kim Junsu as its narrator, is garnering attention for recording ratings in the high 4%, even though it airs late at night.
According to AGB Nielsen, the MBC documentary special titled ‘The Zoo Is Alive’, which aired on the 25th at 11:14pm, recorded ratings of 4.7%. This was 1% higher than last week’s episode ‘An Inconvenient 5th Year of College’, and 1.6% higher than the pilot variety show ‘I’m Your Substitute Angel’ that aired two weeks ago.
Though the raw value may not seem to indicate high viewership, one needs to consider the fact that the documentary was aired late at night, and went up against SBS’ ‘Healing Camp’ (8%) and KBS’ ‘Hello’ (11.3%).
The documentary is especially meaningful for Kim Junsu as this was his first time in five years since 2009 that he had entered the MBC building.
Though fellow members Kim Jaejoong (Dr. Jin) and Park Yoochun (Miss Ripley, I Miss You) have already worked with MBC through their dramas, not many opportunities came to Kim Junsu because he focused mostly on musicals and albums. He was finally able to step foot into the MBC building for the first time in five years, but it was as the narrator of a documentary.
While credits were rolling after the documentary, footage of Kim Junsu recording his narrations and holding an interview was aired. Kim Junsu was able to greet the viewers as he stated, “Because this was a documentary about animals, I decided to summon up the courage to try it out.”
After the airing of the documentary, viewers left positive reviews of Kim Junsu’s narrations on community threads with comments such as, “His warm voice is so fitting”, “Please make a second episode,” and “It was great to see Kim Junsu on MBC for the first time in a while.”
