The MBC drama, which aired in Korea from November 2012 to January 2013, is currently being shown in Japan through DATV but will soon air on Japan’s main channels. There has also been interest from fans in Europe and America. Although it can already be seen on streaming sites such as Hulu and Drama Fever, more viewing options are being considered.
One reason for the increasing interest in the series is the popularity of one of its stars, actor and JYJ singer Park Yoo Chun.
“They are especially interested in Park Yoo Chun,” said a drama official. “His popularity around the world is unimaginably immense. We’re preparing promotions to take place in America.”
Yoo Chun is already a mega star in China, where he has earned fans with such dramas a “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” and “Rooftop Prince.” He was the first Korean celebrity to be invited to appear on the television program “Yuan Xiao Jie Live” for their full-moon special. Hunan TV sent a chartered plane to bring him there.
Yoo Chun recently completed a Chinese fan-meet tour in which he attended an official media event hosted in Beijing. He came across as likable and well-mannered, winning over even more Chinese fans when he expressed a desire to star in a film directed by a popular Chinese director and to act with two prominent Chinese actresses.
For his work in “I Miss You,” Yoo Chun was recently nominated for “Male Popularity Awards” in the Baeksang Arts Awards. Also nominated was fellow JYJ member and actor Kim Jae Joong. The awards honor outstanding achievement in the South Korean entertainment industry. Last year he won an MBC “Excellent Actor in a Mini-Series” award for his role in the drama.
