The reason JYJ, the group who was
shaken due to the split, ‘won the lawsuit’ and start afresh, silenced
the leaders of the entertainment world.
Korean’s famous group, ‘JYJ’ held a 3-day concert in Tokyo Dome from April 2ND. The tickets went sold out on the same day and mobilized a sum of 150,000 people. If the fans who went to live-viewing are added, a total of 210,000 fans enjoyed the concert.

JYJ has once again proven their huge
popularity in Japan, but, it is also widely known that they have been
deprived from Japan’s center stage after getting entangled in contract
dispute for 3 years. This event (Tokyo Dome) in particular was as
symbolic as, quoted by Nikkan Sports, the achievements of a soccer
tournament.
‘In 2012, a soccer match that has their
main star, JYJ’s member Junsu’ was held in Kokuritsukyougijou Stadium.
The opposing team was a team comprised of the artist from Kishimoto
Entertainment. Apart from that, various Hallyu stars was planned to
gather for the match, thus on that day, more than 50,000 people
congested the area to gather as audience. However, nearing the date of
the event, one after another Hallyu star cancelled on the event.
Furthermore, despite of this big incident, the one who made an article
of it was Nikkan Sports. And it was only a tiny and insignificant
article of the event. The whole (of the article) was about AVEX, who do
not recognize JYJ’s Japan activities and had applied for “appeal”’
(Reporter of a sports paper)
To start
from the beginning, AVEX debuted Tohoshinki in Japan amidst the height
of Hallyu Wave. The trouble came from the injustice of contract with
their Korean management company, SM Entertainment. The result was, three
out of the five of them, Kim Jaejoong, Park Yoochun and Kim Junsu
withdrawn from the original group and formed JYJ. With a Korean based
entertainment company, ‘C-JeS Entertainment’, they started with their
own activities, but , due to the law dispute with SM who do not
recognize their independence, ever since then, JYJ’s activities has been
restricted in various form.
‘Naturally, it affects their Japanese
activities as well. The one who is responsible for Tohoshinki’s
activities in Japan, AVEX, at one time acknowledge that the group had
split, and made a new exclusive contract with JYJ and the new management
company. However, after SM filed a claim, suspicions arises about C-JeS
representative’s close acquaintance together with his anti-socialness,
(JYJ’s) activities in Japan was unsurprisingly suspended.’ (Reporter of a
sports paper)
With this, the power of a management
company for JYJ in Japan become afloat, thus a lot of companies are
showing interest in getting the rights to manage them.
For example, in 2011, JYJ had boldly said
‘to donate JPY 100M to the area struck by The Great Tohoku Earthquake’
and held a concert in Ryougoku Kokugikan Arena, but, there’s even this
rumor by the one who sponsored the concert, ‘Zak Corporation.’
‘Apart from only donating a small amount
of money, the concert had the incidence of a loss of JPY 300 M and the
company suffered a deteriorating finance that, by the following year,
they filed for Civil Rehabilitation Law. However, on the other hand,
before the bankruptcy, Zak’s President M had a joint venture business
and purchase new shares for an investment firm and he settled to be an
operating officer of the firm. It’s no surprise if we say that the
bankruptcy was just a camouflage.’
In addition, there’s even the dispute
over the concert’s live video footage. There’s also another story in
which it is reported that Japan’s production company ‘kela project’ was
resorting and preparing to sue C-JeS President Baek for violation of
copyright.
Future activities are uncertain; JYJ is the entertainment industry’s taboo
Furthermore, on Zak’s behalf, apart from
there were propagandas like ‘Don’t prey on the disaster’s victims!’,
‘Don’t allow the double contract for Korean singer’s business!’ from the
right-wing organization, on the other hand, another incident was that
there’s also a political organization that was making fuss over AVEX
whom do not acknowledge the concert.
The situations finally change in last year’s November. A settlement come to hold between JYJ and SME and on January 18TH in
Japan this year, the Tokyo District Court ruled in JYJ’s favor against
AVEX and requested them to stop their exploitation of management power
in monopolizing JYJ and at the same time instructed AVEX to pay a sum of
JPY 660 M in damages. Although, in objection to the judgment AVEX
applied for appeal, but for the time being, JYJ’s claim was acknowledge
and it seems that the possibility of Japan activities seems to be
bright.
However, the thing that makes this as an
incomplete settlement is Japan; the world of entertainment business.
Undoubtedly, a new battle has broken for the rights of JYJ. On one hand,
behind closed doors, there’s a rumor wide among Japan’s media that a
leader in the entertainment world who is close to AVEX’s President
Matsuura Masato, Burning Production’s President, Suou Ikuo, has got into
the mediation.
‘Even though President Suou is famous for
hating the Hallyu Wave, JYJ is more popular than their original group,
Tohoshinki, and even if they fall over, they are still making money.
Although, it seems that President Suou is still carefully supervising
the current situation. This may show that he’s viewing JYJ as ‘a
dangerous property.’ (Reporter of a sports paper)
On another part, there are also talks
that a strong company which house Southern All Stars and Fukuyama
Masaharu belongs to, a professional AMUSE is probably responsible of
JYJ.
‘First of all, the company who’s in
charge of JYJ’s Tokyo Dome live-viewing was ‘Live-Viewing Japan’. In the
same firm is, the associated company, AMUSE, then again, they are also
shareholders of the company in dispute with JYJ, AVEX. But if they’ve
not come to an agreement, then they (JYJ and Live-Viewing Japan)
would’ve not worked together.’ (A staff of entertainment world)
As a matter of fact, it seems that there is another dispute here. Reporters are worrying of what has been discussed.
‘From the concert’s organizer, Kyodo
Yokohama, there’s a request for live-viewing from ‘Live-Viewing Japan’.
Certainly, as the parent company, AMUSE’s President, Oosato Youkichi and
President Suou were previously tied in various connection of that water
and oil. Once, it did seems that they’ve taken over, but, even here,
AVEX had ‘pleaded’ for it, thus in the end AMUSE had walked out. It’s
just that at the site of the cinema’s live-viewing, a lot of the credit
was still ‘Distribution: Live-Viewing Japan’ (bitter laugh)’
As of April 7TH, on the blog
of JYJ’s related person, it seems that the following was written; ‘One
of these days, there’ll be an announcement of the company that they
(JYJ) have decided on’…. At any rate, in regards of activities in Japan,
the three of them need a considerable power to back them up against big
players in the entertainment world.
